f is for flora, fauna, and french fries
For F day the first time around there was very little documentation, but we did have a fish for dinner!
The second time around I made a fruit and flowers mobile using tissue paper, and styrofoam.
My son drew a lovely apple and made a watermelon, and my daughter who had been away that morning swiftly came in and cut them to pieces with our scissors.
So I tried to tape them back together as best I could but it mostly ended up being a craft day for me.
He also helped make our pomegranate
Sometimes that's just how it goes.
(But I had fun, and they grew to like the mobile so much they wouldn't let me bring it to our artist residency at the Sou'wester! But I made a second one there--and that was fun too!)
F is also wonderfully inclusive of so many things, flora! fauna! forests! You really have almost whatever is out the door at your fingertips, or a world to explore online, or in books, depending on circumstances. This year we've dealt with quarantine, wildfire smoke, ice storms, power outages! Crazy stuff, so improvisation has been crucial to our success, and in fact I find much of my creativity is born of restrictions. Using only trash from our house? ok. Using only trash we find on a walk? ok. Using only trash from stuff that comes in the mail? Stuff from our garage/basement/attic? Old socks from dad for puppets? A random piece of wood with a square cut out to make a puppet stage? Sure!
And there are some wonderful F books: Frog and Toad for one.
